There’s a platform called mooin that can be used freely for creating and hosting online courses. It’s based on moodle, but was customized quite a bit. Unfortunately, there are some kinks in the backend that tend to get a little annoying.
For example, if you want to move a course page to a different position, you can only move it one position at a time — basically swap it with one of its neighbors. You cannot move it several positions without tampering with URLs. Well, now you can.
I cannot change the moodle code, but I wrote a tiny Chrome extension. It doesn’t only make moving pages more comfortable, but it also hides some options that you are allowed to change, but might wreck the course. It is really just a hack and will break when someone changes the stylesheets or some moodle plugins. I wouldn’t want to miss it anyway.
